5 dead in Sacramento church shooting after man kills his children, then takes own life

Tragedy struck on Monday night in Sacramento as a man opened fire at a local church, resulting in the deaths of five individuals, including his three daughters, before taking his own life, according to authorities.

Sgt. Rod Grassmann, a spokesperson for the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office, revealed that a fifth person was among the casualties. The three daughters, aged 9, 10, and 13, all lost their lives at the scene of the shooting.

The incident occurred around 5:00 p.m. at The Church in Sacramento, located in the Arden-Arcade neighborhood. The main sanctuary of the church became the unfortunate backdrop for the tragic events. A church worker, who was upstairs at the time, alerted the police upon hearing gunshots.

Describing the incident as a "domestic violence incident," Grassmann disclosed that the assailant was estranged from the children's mother, who had a restraining order against him. Notably, individuals with active restraining orders are prohibited from owning firearms.

Sheriff Scott Jones indicated that the shooting likely transpired during a supervised visit with the children, with an adult serving as the chaperone and becoming the fourth victim. Grassmann emphasized the need for an extensive investigation, acknowledging the considerable amount of physical evidence that would need to be collected.

Other individuals were present in the church building at the time of the shooting, though it remains unclear whether a service or another event was taking place.

Expressing condolences, California Gov. Gavin Newsom released a statement on Monday night, condemning the senseless act of gun violence. "Another senseless act of gun violence in America - this time in our backyard. In a church with kids inside. Absolutely devastating. Our hearts go out to the victims, their families, and their communities," Newsom's tweet read.

As we marvel at the beauty of the Northern Lights, the same solar storm energy that creates this spectacle could potentially lead to what a researcher terms an "internet apocalypse."

Professor Peter Becker of George Mason University highlights the unique challenge humanity faces as the sun becomes more active just when our dependence on the internet and the global economy linked to it is at its peak. This intersection prompted Becker and his team, in collaboration with the Naval Research Laboratory, to embark on a project to develop an early warning system.

Scientist Claims Solar Superstorm Could Create An Internet Apocalypse

Solar superstorms, characterized by solar flares and coronal mass ejections (CME), pose a significant threat to Earth. Becker explains that while flares provide a visible warning with their brightening of the sun, the real concern lies in the unpredictable directions CMEs can take. Fortunately, scientists can predict when these charged particles are heading toward Earth, providing approximately 18 to 24 hours of warning before they impact the planet and interfere with its magnetic field.

CMEs involve large blobs of plasma hurtling through space, some of which collide with Earth, distorting its magnetic field. This distortion can turn the Earth's surface into an unintended conductor, potentially leading to the flow of inductive currents. Contrary to the assumption of safety through grounding, this scenario could result in damaging electronic systems that were previously deemed secure.

Various critical systems, including the power grid, satellites, underground fiber optic cables, navigation and GPS systems, radio transmitters, and communication equipment, are susceptible to the effects of a solar superstorm.

Drawing parallels to the Carrington Event of 1859, the last time a CME reached Earth, Becker emphasizes the vulnerability of modern electronics compared to the sturdier telegraph wires of that era. The potential consequences of a solar superstorm could cripple essential infrastructure, leading to weeks or months of downtime for repairs, causing not only communication disruptions but also significant economic losses.

Becker estimates a staggering economic disruption of $10-$20 billion per day for the U.S. alone if such an event were to occur. Evidence from tree rings and ice cores suggests that superstorms in the past have been much larger, with a solar flare about 14,000 years ago potentially hundreds of times stronger than the Carrington Event.

As the current solar cycle peaks, with an expected peak in 2024 according to NOAA forecasts, Becker emphasizes the difficulty of predicting solar storms, likening it to predicting earthquakes. He suggests that while it's challenging to control the situation, preparations can be made to mitigate the impact. His team monitors the sun and models flares, aiming to provide as much advance notice as possible.

Becker emphasizes the importance of quick action in the event of a warning, allowing for measures such as putting satellites in safe mode and taking transformers offline to prevent damage. However, he acknowledges the economic challenge of long-term solutions, such as hardening the internet infrastructure. With a lack of economic incentives for large corporations to invest in such measures, the potential for an "internet apocalypse" remains a looming concern, with the odds standing at approximately 10% over the next decade.

Ladies and gentlemen, grab your popcorn and prepare for a political plot twist that even Hollywood couldn’t dream up! I'm Tanya "The Tea" Tilman, your sassy source for all things scandalous, and boy, do I have a tale for you today.

In a shocking turn of events, former Trump attorney Sidney Powell has pleaded guilty in the Georgia election subversion case, just a day before her trial was set to start. Now, I know what you're thinking – guilty pleas and politics, it's practically a match made in heaven!

Powell, once a fierce defender of Trump, is now singing a different tune. She's admitting her role in the January 2021 election system breach in rural Coffee County, Georgia. Ah, the art of negotiation in the legal world – it's like a high-stakes game of poker!

But wait, there's more! Powell's guilty plea includes testifying at future trials, writing an apology letter to the citizens of Georgia, forking over nearly $9,000 in restitution and fines, and handing over documents. It's almost like a political reality show, and Powell is taking the stage as the reluctant star.

Interestingly, Trump, her former ally in all things controversial, was not mentioned in Powell's plea documents. It's as if he's been edited out of this particular episode, leaving us all wondering what role he might play in the next season of "Political Intrigues and Legal Maneuvers."

Jury Holds Trump Accountable for Sexual Abuse, Awards Accuser $5 Million

Jury Holds Trump Accountable for Sexual Abuse, Awards Accuser $5 Million

In a significant legal development, a jury has found Donald Trump liable for sexually abusing advice columnist E. Jean Carroll in 1996 and has ordered him to pay $5 million in damages. This judgment could have profound implications for the former president as he pursues a campaign to regain the presidency.

The verdict, although not unanimous, brings a sense of vindication to Carroll, whose allegations had been ridiculed and dismissed by Trump for many years. While the jury did not support Carroll's claim of rape, they found Trump responsible for a lesser degree of sexual assault. The decision further adds to Trump's legal troubles, compounding his existing challenges.

As the verdict was announced in a federal courtroom in New York City, Carroll acknowledged it with a nod and expressed her gratitude towards her supporters by hugging them and smiling through tears. After the courtroom cleared, Carroll's laughter and tears could be heard echoing.

In addition to holding Trump accountable for sexual assault, the jury also found him liable for defaming Carroll after she publicly made her allegations. Trump chose not to attend the civil trial and was absent when the verdict was read.

Responding to the judgment, Trump took to his social media platform and issued a statement, once again denying any knowledge of Carroll and describing the verdict as a "disgrace" and "a continuation of the greatest witch hunt of all time." He vowed to appeal the decision.

Trump's lawyer, Joseph Tacopina, greeted Carroll and her lawyer, Roberta Kaplan, with handshakes and hugs following the announcement of the verdict. Speaking to reporters outside the courthouse, Tacopina expressed his perplexity at the jury's decision to reject the rape claim while still holding Trump responsible for sexual assault, calling it "perplexing" and "strange."

He defended Trump's absence from the trial, stating that it would have turned into a circus and that his presence would have further fueled the media frenzy. Tacopina emphasized Trump's repeated denial, saying, "What more can you say other than 'I didn't do it.' And he said that on the road."

In a written statement released after leaving the courthouse without speaking, Carroll expressed her motive for suing Trump, stating that she sought to "clear my name and to get my life back." She regarded the verdict as a victory not only for herself but for all women who have suffered because they were not believed.

Roberta Kaplan, in a written statement, expressed her hope that the outcome of this case would demonstrate that nobody, including the president of the United States, is above the law.

The implications of this verdict on Trump's third presidential bid remain unclear. Despite facing numerous controversies in the past, Trump has managed to maintain a strong position among GOP contenders, with few political consequences resulting from previous incidents such as the infamous "Access Hollywood" tape or his indictment in New York.

Following the announcement of the verdict, Trump's fellow Republican candidates remained largely silent, wary of alienating his supporters, who play a crucial role in winning the presidential nomination. Former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, one of the few vocal Trump critics in the race, characterized the verdict as "another example of the indefensible behavior of Donald Trump."

Jury finds Trump liable for sexual abuse, awards accuser $5M

E. Jean Carroll was one of over a dozen women who have accused Trump of sexual assault or harassment. She publicly revealed her allegations in 2019, claiming that Trump had raped her in the dressing room of a high-end Manhattan department store.

Trump vehemently denied the accusation, asserting that he never encountered Carroll at the store and did not know her. He referred to her as a "nut job" who fabricated a false story to promote her memoir.

During the trial, Carroll provided several days of candid and occasionally emotional testimony.

A video capturing a heated argument between a judge and a Michigan woman who sued a man for $10,000 for standing her up on a date has been making rounds. QaShontae H. Short filed the lawsuit against her no-show date on September 10, 2020, citing emotional distress as the date was her late mother's birthday. However, Judge Herman Marable Jr. informed Short that she filed the lawsuit in the wrong court and that the case should have been filed in circuit court.

The defendant stated that he thought the case would be thrown out as they only had one date and that he did not want to waste the judge's time. Short, then yelled about perjury, to which the judge raised his voice and took off his face shield. The judge eventually transferred the suit to the circuit court after muting the Zoom call.

Chinese Video Industry Exploiting Black Children

Chinese video industry exploiting Black Children

The latest documentary from BBC African Eye, titled "Racism for Sale: The Chinese Video-Makers Exploiting African Children," exposes an insidious practice. Although it may not generate the same level of uproar as "Sweet Sweet Codeine" or "Sex for Grades," the investigation reveals that thousands of videos exploiting African children are circulating on social media platforms, earning the video-makers significant profits. The documentary begins by examining a shocking video that circulated on Chinese social media in February 2020, showing a group of African children chanting phrases in Chinese that translate to "I am a black monster and my IQ is low.

The video sparked outrage, but it also raised questions about its origins. BBC AfricaEye and BBC EyeInvestigations reporters tracked down "Uncle Susu," the person responsible for filming the video, to a remote Malawian village. Despite the evidence against him, Uncle Susu denies making the video. The documentary ends with the BBC team driving away, leaving Uncle Susu behind with the exploited children and their families. The investigation highlights a vast and exploitative industry that spans Africa.

Shooting during ball game at Atlanta park leaves 2 dead and 4 wounded, including 6-year-old

On Sunday, a shooting at a ballgame in Rosa L. Burney Park in Atlanta resulted in two fatalities and four injuries, including a critically injured six-year-old child, according to the Atlanta Police. The incident began during a baseball or softball game when an argument erupted and escalated to gunfire, resulting in six people being shot. One man and one woman died, while the remaining victims were hospitalized, with one in critical condition. Police released images of a person of interest, requesting the public's help in identifying the individual. The Atlanta Police Department clarified that the individual was a person of interest, not a suspect, and requested information to aid their ongoing investigation. Police are still determining the relationship between the victims and investigating the cause of the shooting. The police deputy chief appealed to the public to resolve conflicts without resorting to weapons, emphasizing that gun violence has no place in society. Georgia has had 18 mass shootings this year, and Atlanta has experienced a 9% increase in homicides and a 4% increase in aggravated assaults compared to the same time last year.

PHILADELPHIA MOTHER OF 6 BRUTALLY STABBED TO DEATH BY FIANCÉ

A man from Philadelphia has been taken into police custody after stabbing his fiancé to death and leaving her body in a gold Honda Odyssey. According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, 34-year-old Raymond Thompson turned himself in over the weekend and has been charged with killing Ashley Lockhart, 32, in a brutal knife attack. Lockhart was found in the van with multiple stab wounds to her body and face. Thompson has admitted to the killing, saying that he believed Lockhart was cheating on him. He left her body in the passenger seat of the van and then went to Kensington to use heroin before calling the police to turn himself in.

Assistant District Attorney Joanne Pescatore confirmed that Lockhart had previously filed a Protection From Abuse order against Thompson, but the two were still living together. Lockhart’s family has set up a GoFundMe page to support her six daughters, who are returning to school soon. The page has surpassed its initial goal of $30,000, with donations going towards ensuring that the girls are not separated after the loss of their mother. The page describes Lockhart as an amazing mother who was dedicated to her children and made sacrifices for them that they will forever remember.
